Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to your frequently asked questions. If we didn’t answer your question, you can chat with a Montana E&T representative. Or you can call our Customer Engagement Unit Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. MT at 844-680-4700.

Maximus operates the Montana Employment & Training (MT E&T) Services Program on behalf of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, serving eligible participants in TANF, SNAP E&T, and Refugee Support Services.

For individuals eligible to participate in MT E&T through TANF, SNAP E&T, or Refugee Support Services (RSS), we offer services tailored to individual employment and training needs. We can help you access job readiness training, in-person and virtual job fairs, skill-building opportunities, training and education resources, supportive services, and much more.

Many MT E&T services are available virtually. Your Case Manager can help you determine which virtual services are available to you based on your program and location. You will have online access to our coaching system, TuaPath, as well as online training and education resources, virtual workshops, virtual job fairs, mock interviews, and much more!

We encourage you to take advantage of our virtual services to support your goals and success.

We offer in-person services by appointment in Missoula, Great Falls, Helena, Bozeman, and Billings Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

We also post dates and locations for in-person services in other areas of the state on our website. If you do not see any events listed for your area, please contact your Case Manager. They can help you explore additional options and connect you with available services.

Your Case Manager is assigned after enrollment. Think of your Case Manager as your main support person at MT Employment & Training. They’ll get to know your goals, help you navigate the program, connect you with resources and services, and support you as you work toward your employment and training goals. If you’re not sure who your Case Manager is, contact our team at 844-680-4700, text 406-430-7007, or email MT-ET@maximus.com.

Depending on your program and assigned activities, you may be required to submit a timesheet and/or other documentation verifying your participation. Your Case Manager will explain what you need to submit and when. If you need help completing your timesheet, contact your Case Manager.

For SNAP E&T Participants: SNAP E&T is voluntary. If you are unable to work and believe you may qualify for an exemption from SNAP work requirements, contact DPHHS to discuss your circumstances and any documentation that may be required

For TANF E&T Participants: If a medical condition or other circumstance affects your ability to participate, contact your Case Manager as soon as possible. Your circumstances will be reviewed to determine whether an exemption, Good Cause, or different activities may apply. You may be asked to provide documentation.

A TANF sanction is a penalty that may reduce or stop TANF benefits when program requirements are not met without Good Cause. The penalty depends on the number of sanctions and can affect either the sanctioned individual or the entire household.

  • 1st sanction: 1-month penalty for the sanctioned individual, resulting in reduced benefits.
  • 2nd sanction: 1 month of ineligibility for the entire household.
  • 3rd sanction: 3 months of ineligibility for the entire household.
  • 4th and subsequent sanctions: 6 months of ineligibility for the entire household.

Your Case Manager is your primary point of contact. If you are unable to reach your Case Manager, you may call us at 844-680-4700, text 406-430-7007, or email us at MT-ET@maximus.com or chat with a representative from our customer service team on this page.
